Pack Newsletter – November 2017

Welcome to a new month of Scouting! We have a new cubmaster to announce! Chris Gray has volunteered to lead our pack as we move into the new year. Chris was an eagle scout back in his day and his son, Logan just joined our pack last spring and can be found in our Wolf Den. We are very excited to get to know them both as well as all our other new scouts and new leaders. Jeff Patrick will be helping Chris get started in coming weeks and will slowly drift off into the blue and gold sunset officially come February.

We have been very busy recruiting this fall and have 11 new scouts and several new leaders. We are welcoming Brad Hallisey as a new Assistant Cubmaster, John Weale as an assistant den leader for the Wolf Den, and Mark Nelson and Christy Higa are now officially brown shirted committee members. We still have many more spots to fill in our leadership team, so if you would like to get involved whether it be for one event or as an official leader, please let us know! Our boys depend on us!

November Pack Meeting at Rose Hill Elementary:

Fitness Skills to Build Strong Scouts

November 15 7:00-8:00pm

Welcome to the Scouting Olympics!

Join our leaders as they take the boys through a myriad of exercises and skills as we create our own Olympic Games. Think long jump, high jump, 20 yard dash, shot put and more! The boys will move through stations and tackle tasks with their dens. We will need several parents to help time events and note progress on the scout score sheets.  Please contact Jeff Deinhard if you are available to help!

At the end of the night we will regroup for an exciting chariot race around the gymnasium.

It looks to be a fun event for all!

December Service Project at Food Lifeline in Seattle

Pack and Sort Food

Saturday, December 9th 9:00am-11:30am

Pack 428 has an opportunity to help serve our community by helping pack and sort food at Food Lifeline on Saturday, December 9th from 9:00am to 11:30am.

We have spots for 30 people, so we will begin by limiting our sign up to 15 scouts and an accompanying parent so the most scouts can participate in this activity. Unfortunately, volunteers must be 6 years old and 3 of our Lions are not quite old enough to join in this one, but we will have other service projects this year that they will be able to participate in!

There are 3 necessary steps to signing up:

1: Pack 428 signup for awards, tracking the number of signups and making sure everyone is accounted for:

FOOD LIFELINE SIGNUP

2: Food Life line has its own volunteer page for adults to login and sign up

FOOD LIFELINE  : This is the website link for FOOD Lifeline. Click on the December 9th date on the calendar and then click the ‘Sign Up’ button in the pop up window.

3: A consent form is required for all participants under 18. The link is below. You must print and bring this consent form with you to the event.

Help feed your

hungry neighbors!

Last year Food Lifeline rescued more than 40 million pounds of healthy nutritious food from farmers, manufacturers, grocery stores, and restaurants. This food often arrives in large quantities that can’t be directed immediately to the more than 275 food banks, shelters and meal programs that we serve.

THAT’S WHERE YOU COME IN

Make an impact by helping us sort and repack the food we rescue every day. It’s easy, fun, and you can make a huge difference in just a few hours.

VOLUNTEER GUIDELINES

Food Lifeline is an industrial food handling facility which means certain procedures need to be maintained to keep everyone safe.

• Closed-toed shoes are required, no exceptions.

• It is often cold in the warehouse. For your comfort, please dress in warm layers.

• Your work will be physical in nature and includes long periods of standing. You may be asked to lift up to 40 pounds.

• Please arrive 10 minutes early and plan to work the full session.

Sort & Pack Ages 6+

Repack bulk donations into family size portions. Individual volunteers are welcome, as are children aged 6 years or older.

VOLUNTEERING WITH CHILDREN

Hundreds of children volunteer with Food Lifeline each year to help those in need. Our volunteer sessions are fun, rewarding and empowering for all children ages 6 and older. We have these guidelines in place to keep them safe and insure that the projects they work on are successful.

• Children must be 6 years of age or older to volunteer.

• Children under 18 must bring a completed Parent/Guardian Consent Form to each volunteer session.

• Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult, with at least 1 adult for every 5 children.

Scoutbook

Each of you should have received an invitation to login to www.scoutbook.com. This is how we are tracking rank advancements this year and it allows parents to login to their accounts and add achievements as your scout completes them. This should make things much easier for your den leaders so please take some time to familiarize yourselves with the website and begin tracking your son’s progress.
