Pack 428 Newsletter

October 2018

Greetings Pack 428!

We hope you are all getting settled into your new routines. We have some fun events planned for this month and next and hope you can join us. Remember our camping trip this weekend! There is still time to sign up and camp or just come for the day on Saturday for a fun day of activities! For more details and to sign up, click here!

We are still signing up new scouts, so if you know anyone interested in scouting, please invite them to our Recycling Regatta Pack Meeting on October 17, 2018 at 6:30PM at Ben Rush Elementary (6101 152nd Ave NE, Redmond). Please note the change in location! You can also put potential scouts in touch with one of our recruiting chairs, Melinda Gray, at melinda.chambers@gmail.com or have them check out our website at www.pack428.com.

Remember to CLEAN and save your best recyclables for making boats at our October pack meeting. Think materials that will float and make great little raingutter-sized sailboats. This is a very fun activity!

October Pack Meeting at Ben Rush Elementary: Recycling Regatta

October 17 6:30-8:00pm

Note the location change!!

Back by popular demand, we are hosting our 6th annual Recycling Regatta!  The boys and girls will use their creative genius to turn ordinary recycle items into boats. They will test their skills to see if their creation floats, and then they will attempt to race it down our inflatable track using wind power generated through straws! We had some awesome creations last year and are really looking forward to seeing their creative genius at work again!

A few ground rules:

  • Each scout must bring in CLEAN recycling material: plastics and cartons of various sizes and shapes work great. NO tin cans and NO glass. And, seriously, make sure it is clean!
  • The boat must be built at the Pack Meeting.
  • The Pack will provide duct tape, hot glue guns, corks and popsicle sticks.
  • Encourage your scout to look through your recycling materials in the coming weeks and pick out things that he or she could use. Get the imagination spinning with ideas for this fun project. START COLLECTING GREAT RECYCLABLES!!
  • We will set up work stations by dens. The scouts will take their recycling materials to their tables to share with their dens.  Each den will have its own hot glue gun and duct tape. We will need parent volunteers to supervise the hot glue guns and duct tape use at each table.

Dues!  Don’t forget to bring your checkbook and pay your dues at the Pack Meeting if you haven’t already. If you haven’t updated your scout’s health form, we will have those on hand too. Let’s make Mark Nelson’s job easy get those dues taken care of! Thanks!

If the fees are a hardship for your family, please contact Mark Nelson at mark.nel@frontier.com

Slides  You may have heard about the recall on the scout neckerchief slides. This affects your scout received at the June picnic or beginning of this year. Please have your scout bring his or her slide to the meeting with his or her name taped on the back. All the slides will be replaced by the pack. Lions and Webelo IIs are not affected by the recall.

November Pack Outing – Urban Expedition @ MoPop – Marvel Universe

Saturday, November 10th from 11:00am-afternoon

For our urban expedition this year we’ll be venturing to MoPop the museum of pop culture to see the Marvel Universe exhibit on Saturday, November 10th. We need exact counts by October 25th.  Please sign up here with the number of adults and children in your party. Scouts and one guardian are free; additional family members are $10 per person. After our visit, children can play on the park facilities near the museum.

As in all our urban expeditions in the past, we highly recommend you and your family try and take the bus down to MoPop! The kids love it and it is a fun addition to your adventure and saves on parking too! Please check the signup above with one route idea, or feel free to explore your own route!
