January 2019

Happy New Year to all our scouts and families! I hope you all had a wonderful vacation and are ready to jump in to a new year of scouting! Our December service project at Lake Washington United Methodist Church was perhaps the speediest service project in pack history. Our scouts packed snack bags like nobody’s business and finished up in a half hour! Way to go scouts!

We have a lot of fun events coming up, so please take a few minutes to check your schedules and get signed up! Especially important is RSVPing for the snowshoe outing: the snow outing is February 16, but we need an RSVP by January 10 if you need snow shoes. See below for more details.

Blue and Gold Dinner and Webelo II’s Crossover Ceremony

Sign Up for the Dinner

BLUE AND GOLD DINNER ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCED! This year’s entertainment for our Blue and Gold Dinner is YOU! That’s right! We are having our scouts provide the entertainment this year in a mini talent show. Does your scout like to juggle? Play an instrument? Tell jokes? Perform martial arts? Dance? Sing? If your scout is interested in sharing his or her talent at the Blue and Gold Dinner in February, please contact Miriam Schmidt (miriam_schmidt@hotmail.com) to sign up. We are looking for 10-15 scouts to share talents. Please note that this is not campfire skits! Talents should be prepared ahead of time and last no more than five minutes. It is OK if scouts want to pair up or do something as a small group. Sign up deadline is January 31st, and will be on a first come-first served basis.

The Blue & Gold Dinner celebrates the birthday of scouting and gives us an opportunity to give back to this wonderful organization.  Please mark your calendars to attend this special event.  After enjoying a meal together and some entertainment, we will celebrate the Crossover Ceremony of our Webelo 2 scouts as they move on to become Boy Scouts!  This is a very meaningful night, recognizing the hard work of our Webelos 2 scouts and their leaders.  Please make every effort to attend! More details to come soon.

*The Blue and Gold Dinner is in place of our monthly pack meeting!  Please note date and location are different than usual. http://www.lwumc.com/be/find-us/

The Blue and Gold Event is a fundraiser for Friends of Scouting. The suggested donation is $50 per family which goes to Scouting at the district and national level. For more information, please read the details below.

At the Blue & Gold Dinner, we will be presenting BSA’s annual “Friends of Scouting” campaign.  This is the annual fundraiser for Boy Scouts. Money collected from the “Friends of Scouting”  campaign goes directly to the Seattle Council of BSA and provides the money necessary for the council to maintain Camps Edwards, Parsons, Pigott and Sheppard; provides liability insurance for all registered youth and leaders; provides full-time executive staff and office support; provides training; offers council and district activities such as camporees, day camps and recognition dinners; and many other ‘behind the scenes’ programs and expenses.

Each Troop and Pack in the Council is asked to raise funds toward the Friends of Scouting campaign to support these important programs.   The council estimates that the cost of sustaining one youth in the Chief Seattle Council is $124 per year, and they would appreciate a $50 donation from each family.  However, any amount that you are able to donate is greatly appreciated.  Every contribution, both big and small, makes a difference!

Please take some time to consider the benefits scouting offers your boy(s) and consider what your family might be able to donate toward our pack’s Friends of Scouting Campaign at the Blue & Gold Dinner on Tuesday, February 17th.  We will be collecting donations that evening – cash or checks should be written directly to the Seattle Council, BSA.

Wednesday, March 20th 6:30pm to 8pm at Ben Rush Elementary

Yes, you heard it right! It is time to get those cars shaped, shined and ready for racing! Derby cars will be passed out at the January den meetings. Scouts should start working on them to get ready for March. Please reach out to your leaders if you need assistance.
