Summer 2020 Newsletter

ALL District camps have officially been canceled. That means, there is NO day camp or residence camp this summer. Of course, this is very disappointing, but also seemed inevitable. We look forward to a time when we can meet in person and participate in camping opportunities such as these.

If state parks open their doors to camping again, we will hold our reservations at Rasar State Park for June 19-21. However, we will likely plan very few activities together, but rather let each family keep to themselves as much as they would like. We do still have spots available, so if you’re looking to get away, please see below to sign up. The pack also has gear that you are welcome to borrow.

See below for some new and some repeat announcements. As always, please reach out to us for any support you need or if you would like to get more involved with the pack (including just leading a one-time event).

And, on the good news front – HOMESCHOOL is ALMOST OVER!

Virtual Meetings, Activities and Badges
Our Facebook page is a great space to share photos of and comments about what your scouts are up to. It is a private place for our group to post to. If you haven’t joined yet, you can find us here:

Our local district, Chief Seattle Council, has also posted ideas for scouting activities at home. Some of the page is geared towards pack leaders, but other parts are geared towards scouts and parents. Check it out here. They’ve also created a “Scouting from Home” badge scouts can earn during this time. Requirements are posted on the page.

Everyone should continue to work on their ranks at home throughout the summer. Scouts will advance to their next rank in the fall automatically, but we encourage scouts to complete their current rank requirements as much as they are able. Everyone should have their rank’s handbook, but they are also posted on our website: (except for Lions). You’ll also find the link to Scoutbook there. Scoutbook is where you should log your scout’s progress.

A Look Ahead
We continue to work on virtual scouting events for this summer. We will keep you posted. Please reach out if you have any ideas you’d like to share.

In the fall, we hope to host the Pinewood Derby and a special awards ceremony to honor our scouts who completed their ranks. All Cub Scouts advance to the next rank automatically each year.

Upcoming Camping Opportunity
We are still holding our spaces at Rasar in June, but it will depend on what the state parks decide to do (currently camping is closed in state parks). As mentioned above, this will largely be an individual family event.

See our private Facebook page (or your newsletter in your inbox) for the link to sign up.
