Well, it seems like it’s been forever since we were together! I am looking forward to our local hike and pack meeting this month.

- February Events
Pack Outing: Local Hike – February 3, 1pm. 21760 Novelty Hill Rd, Redmond, WA 98053 Meet at the Redmond Watershed Preserve near the restrooms – by the big map. We will examine the map, and then go hiking. There will be a 1.7 mile option and a 3.3 mile option (or we can even make changes when we meet at the map to choose a different distance). Text Miriam if you are running late. 425-429-1496
Pack Meeting: Wednesday, February 21, 6:30-8pm – Ben Rush
Magic Show by Alaska Sam! – Who doesn’t love a good magic show! Join us for a night of wonder and amazement!
Remember, scouts should always (when possible) wear their class A uniforms to pack meetings. Each meeting will have an opening and closing flag ceremony, and the scout uniform is part of the scout program!
- Pack Overnights Updates
Registration for winter camp is full, but there is still space on Saturday for the day. Please sign up directly if you are interested in going. If you’d like to try to arrange a carpool, please email miriam_schmidt@hotmail.com, and I can put interested parties in touch with one another.
Information about Camp Sheppard and registration can be found here: https://seattlebsa.org/camping/camp-sheppard/.
Zoo Snooze is full!
Final note – everyone attending an overnight must complete the BSA Medical Forms A and B (680-001_AB.pdf (scouting.org)). This is for ALL family members, including parents and siblings. You can bring the forms with you. If you filled out forms already this year, we should have them on file, so you do not need to fill them out again.
- A Look Ahead
In March we will have a special pack meeting to celebrate our Webelo II/Arrow of Light Den as they crossover to Scouts, BSA. We will also hold a birthday party for our own pack, who is turning 30, and for BSA in general! We will have games and activities to keep scouts of all ages engaged in this event.
We would also like to participate in Scouting for Food in March, but we are in need of a coordinator. It is not a lot of work – just a few logistics need to be done. Please contact Kristin Dickson if you are willing to help. Otherwise, we will not be participating in Scouting for Food this year.
Soon we will have information to share about spring pack camping (May), Cub Scout Day camp (July 15-19), and residence camp (in August).
- Friends of Scouting Campaign
Did you know that almost all of our dues go to Scouts BSA national? Of the dues each scout pays, only $20 goes to our local council. However, our local council does so much!
Your donations to the Friends of Scouting campaign:
• Keeps camp affordable
• Maintains camp properties
• Provides camp scholarships for youth needing assistance
• Makes Scouting possible for over 1,200 underserved youth
• Ensures trained and dedicated professional staff in each community
Our council relies on donations from community members to provide services to our scouting community. You are a part of this community! Please consider making a donation to the Friends of Scouting campaign using this link: Chief Seattle Council, Boy Scouts of America (funraise.org). The goal for our pack is $2160. If we meet it, we will get free pinewood derby cars!
- Parent Involvement Opportunities
There are several tasks that we need some help with. Please consider helping out. We expect all parents to volunteer at least some time with scouts – whether at the pack level or within your individual den.
March Scouting for Food Coordinator (see above)
Kirkland 4th of July Parade Coordinator (one time commitment): Several years ago our pack marched in the Kirkland 4th of July parade, which was great fun. If we’d like to do this again, we need someone who can sign our group up to march and then coordinate a Sign Up Genius to get scouts the information they need and take their RSVP.
Newsletter and Website (on-going): We are still without a communications chair. I used to really enjoy this position – but it is too much for me with the added responsibilities of the committee chair role. Please consider. Time commitment is 2-3 hours per month, and I have all the details you need to set you up for success! You can make this newsletter look good again!
Reach out to Miriam if interested in any of the above, and I will help get you started!
