February 2022 Newsletter

I heard a report that Winter Camp was awesome! We hope to be able to continue attending this event in the future. As we head into 2022, please keep your eyes open for opportunities to help out. This month, we need a parent to organize our February outing – hopefully on a guided eagle walk. Details are below, and most of the work is already done for you. Let us know if you can help!

In this issue:

  1. February Pack Meeting
  2. February Pack Outing – Help Needed
  3. A Look Ahead
  • February Pack Meeting: Reptile Man!
Wednesday, February 16, 6:30pm, Ben Rush Elementary Commons

The Reptile Man is always such a hit with scouts (and parents)! Come, see, touch and learn about so many amazing reptiles!

  • February Pack Outing – Eagle Walk (Hopefully!)
Saturday or Sunday, February 26 or 27 (organizer’s choice)

We need a parent to lead this pack outing on 2/26 or 2/27. All that is required is firming up the date with Joe (see email below), creating a sign up genius for the pack and sending meet up information to Miriam for circulation. The MOST important thing you do is to show up the day of the event! Easy peasy! If you can help, please let Melinda know by 2/8.

Information about the event:

We could offer a two-hour walk outdoors. Our interpretive walk connects the forest, wetlands and river with the salmon and the bald eagles. Actual sightings of bald eagles have been low this year. But if we see one, we have a nice spotting scope to provide good viewing.

Our suggested donation in $5p/p. In order to ensure adequate staffing, we require a $50 non-refundable deposit to reserve the date.

Alternatively, if no one is able to help with this, would someone be willing to lead a hike? Date is your choice.

  • A Look Ahead

Coming up this spring, we can look forward to our Pinewood Derby, Rocket Launch, Scouting for Food service event and celebrating the Webelos II as they cross over into Scouts BSA. We also will most likely have a local camping opportunity in May. Our next pack meeting will be March 16. Sandra Slutz has offered to lead us through the Fluor 2022 Engineering Challenge (see https://www.sciencebuddies.org/fluor-challenge-2022). Thanks, Sandra!
