Our scouts had a great time with Joe from the Skagit River Bald Eagle Interpretive Center. We walked through rain forest, flood plain and river bank and learned all about the eagles, salmon and forest.

- March Pack Meeting: Engineering Challenge! Wednesday, March 16, 6:30pm, Ben Rush Elementary Commons
Our next pack meeting will be March 16. Sandra Slutz has offered to lead us through the Fluor 2022 Engineering Challenge (see https://www.sciencebuddies.org/fluor-challenge-2022). Thanks, Sandra!
We will also be distributing Pinewood Derby Car Kits at this meeting for the Pinewood Derby to be held at the April Meeting. Stay tuned for opportunities to work on your car (most of the work is done at home). The Gray Family typically opens up their shop the weekend before to make some last minute tweeks to cars, or even to start building from scratch!
- March Service Project – Collecting Food
Dates 3/16-3/27
This is BSA’s national campaign to collect food for our local food banks and make a difference in our community! Food banks are typically at their lowest levels this time of year and this is a fun and simple way we can help out! In the past we’ve been able to set up a collection table at Fred Meyer. This year will be different, but we still want to participate. We will give you more details shortly, but know that it will include a Pizza Party at a local park to gather and sort the food collected. The Pizza party will be held 3/27, time and location TBD!

- April Earth Day Outing – Urban Forest Scavenger Hunt
Saturday, April 2, 11:00am
In coordination with the Bridal Trails Foundation, scouts will embark on a 1.7 mile round trip hike on the Trillium Trail in Bridle Trails park. On the hike we will be searching for subtle signs of life like slime trails, scratch marks, holes, and more. We will also practice 2 principles of Leave no Trace: “Leave What you Find” and “Be Kind to Other Visitors.”

When: Scouts will meet at the Bridle Trails main parking area at 11:00am on Saturday, 4/1. The hike will take about 60 minutes.

- A Look Ahead – Save the Date!
April will be a great month for our pack. In addition to the Earth Day outing mentioned above, we will have our Pinewood Derby at our pack meeting and another service outing on April 23 at 10am at Rose Hill Meadows Park. We are also able to offer a trip to Pioneer Farms like we did a few years ago (no overnight this year, but full day Saturday) on April 16. “A window into the world ofyesteryear. . . See how settlers worked, played and ate. Learn about their relationship with the local Native Americans, and recreate the everyday existence of 100 years ago without electricity or indoor plumbing!” This is a really neat experience.
More details on all these events will be coming as the dates get closer.
